What counts as a competitor?

Competitors aren’t just your traditional business rivals. A competitor is any brand or website that appears in the same AI responses as you. This includes:
  • Business competitors — Other brands in your industry offering similar products or services
  • Content competitors — Blogs, publications, or media sites that rank for the same prompts
  • Informational sources — Government websites, educational institutions, or reference sites that appear alongside you
  • Relevant parties — Organizations and entities that AI frequently mentions in the same context as your brand
Most users start by adding their direct business competitors. But as you explore Sources, you may discover other websites consistently appearing in the same responses — those are worth tracking too.
Check your Sources data to discover which websites frequently appear alongside you in AI responses. These might be competitors you hadn’t considered.

Why add competitors?

When you add competitors, we show you comparison graphs that help you understand your relative performance. This gives you insight into:
  • Where you’re winning against competitors
  • Where there’s room to improve
  • How your visibility is trending compared to peers

Viewing competitor data

Once competitors are added, you’ll see comparison data in your analytics dashboards. This includes:
  • Share of voice — How often each brand is mentioned
  • Trend comparisons — How visibility is changing over time
  • Prompt-level breakdowns — Which prompts favor you vs competitors
Start with your 3-5 main competitors. You can always add more later as you identify new players in your space.
