## What counts as a competitor?

Competitors aren't just your traditional business rivals. A competitor is any brand or website that appears in the same AI responses as you.

This includes:

* **Business competitors** — Other brands in your industry offering similar products or services
* **Content competitors** — Blogs, publications, or media sites that rank for the same prompts
* **Informational sources** — Government websites, educational institutions, or reference sites that appear alongside you
* **Relevant parties** — Organizations and entities that AI frequently mentions in the same context as your brand

Most users start by adding their direct business competitors. But as you explore [Sources](/research/sources), you may discover other websites consistently appearing in the same responses — those are worth tracking too.

<Tip>
  Check your Sources data to discover which websites frequently appear alongside you in AI responses. These might be competitors you hadn't considered.
