# Slack

> Installing the Attensira app in your Slack, the permissions it asks for and why, what a note looks like, answering decisions and replying in threads from Slack, and what happens when you remove it or a post fails.

> Decisions arrive in Slack as rows with **Ship** and **Not now** buttons; [Answering decisions from Slack](#answering-decisions-from-slack) describes how a press is handled.

The Attensira app is how your workspace's Slack hears from us: the Monday note and the win message post to the channel you pick ([notifications](https://docs.attensira.com/account/notifications.md#slack)), the decisions they carry can be answered there with a button, and a reply in a note's thread reaches your agents. It is installed once per workspace.

## Installing it

**1. Open Settings → Notifications**

Under **Slack channel**, press **Add to Slack**. You go to Slack's own approval page, which lists the permissions below.

**2. Approve in Slack**

Pick your Slack workspace and press **Allow**. Slack sends you back to Settings → Notifications, which finishes the install and says "Slack is connected to" your Slack workspace. If you press **Cancel** in Slack instead, the page says Slack was not added and nothing changed.

**3. Pick the channel**

The channel picker lists your public channels and the private ones the app has been added to, archived channels left out. Choose where the Monday note and the win message go.

Any member of the workspace can install it. The install link works once and for ten minutes; if it expires, press **Add to Slack** again. Only the member who pressed **Add to Slack** can finish the install, signed in, for that workspace: an install link forwarded to someone else connects nothing. Installing again into the same Slack workspace replaces the old install; installing a different Slack workspace moves the workspace's Slack there.

The connection shows on **Customize → Connectors** and in `list(type=connector)` over [MCP](https://docs.attensira.com/mcp/tools.md) and the [API](https://docs.attensira.com/api/endpoints.md), like every other connector.

## The permissions it asks for, and why

| Permission | Why |
| - | - |
| `chat:write` | Post the Monday note, the win message and decisions to the channel you picked, answer you privately when you press a button, and answer a reply in its thread. |
| `channels:read` | List your public channels in the channel picker. |
| `groups:read` | List the private channels the app has been added to. |
| `users:read` | Tell who pressed a button. |
| `users:read.email` | Match the person who pressed a button to a member of your workspace by their email address. |
| `channels:history` | Read replies in threads the app itself started. Nothing else in a channel is read. |

The app has no other access to your Slack. No agent run gets Slack tools: the only posts are the messages you chose and the answers to your own button presses and thread replies.

The token Slack gives the app is stored encrypted, under a key of its own for your organization, and is never shown or sent anywhere but Slack.

## What a note looks like

Every note is laid out the same way, whatever it is about:

1. Its subject, as a heading.
2. Every paragraph its email carries, in the same order.
3. The decisions waiting on you, one row each: what it is, then **Ship** and **Not now**. A decision that can't be undone after it ships says so on its row. A [rival alert](https://docs.attensira.com/account/alerts.md) has one row with one button, **Counter it**.
4. The note's own link into Attensira, when it has one.

A row only ever approves (**Ship**) or declines (**Not now**) that one decision. Some decisions have no buttons, only **Answer in Attensira**: anything that is a task for you to do in the app (connecting a service, confirming a proposal to let your agents do more on their own), and anything about how much your agents may do on their own or what they may spend. **No Slack button ever raises your agents' autonomy, a budget, a cap or your plan.** Those are changed only in the app, by you.

## Answering decisions from Slack

Pressing **Ship** or **Not now** counts as you, and only you:

* **Who you are.** Slack must have confirmed your email address, and exactly one member of the workspace must have that address verified on their Attensira account. A person from another company in a shared channel is never matched.
* **Not matched?** You are shown, privately, a **Link your Slack account** button. It opens Attensira, where you are signed in, shows which Slack account it is, and links it to you once you confirm. The link works for 15 minutes. A Slack account whose confirmed email belongs to another member can't be linked to you, and the Slack account is told in Slack when it is linked. Nothing is done until you press the decision's button again.
* **From another company's Slack** (a shared channel)? You can't answer; only this workspace's own Slack can.
* **The same rules as the app.** A press can only do what you could do in the app, under the same [approval rules](https://docs.attensira.com/agent/approval.md). Already answered elsewhere? Slack tells you, and nothing changes.
* **Irreversible work asks twice.** For anything that cannot be undone after it ships, the first press only asks; **Yes, approve** is the explicit yes.
* **One answer per decision.** Pressing twice, or two people pressing at once, answers it once; the second press is told it was already answered. A press that changed nothing (refused, or only asking for the second yes) can be pressed again.
* **Only changes and the brief's own decisions.** A decision named in an alert gets **Ship** only when it is a change; anything else is answered in the app.
* **Counter it** on a [rival alert](https://docs.attensira.com/account/alerts.md#counter-a-rival) puts the counter-move in your queue as a change, as you. It ships nothing: the change waits for your yes like every other. Pressing it again, or from email, files the same one change.

The answer to a press is shown only to you; the channel sees nothing. The thread in Attensira says the decision was answered in Slack.

## Replying in a note's thread

Every note the app posts starts a Slack thread. Reply in it the way you would reply to the note's email ([reply to act](https://docs.attensira.com/account/reply-to-act.md)):

* **Which threads.** Replies are read under the brief, under notes that name a decision, and under a rival alert, where "counter it" (or "yes") counters the rival. A win asks nothing, so talk under it is left alone.
* **Commands act.** "yes", "1 yes 2 no", "stop" answer the note's decisions, under the same rules as a button and an email reply.
* **Anything else goes to your agents** on the same thread in Attensira: "make it less salesy" or "why this page?" lands in the note's thread in the app, as you, and your agents answer there.
* **The answer comes back in the same Slack thread.** It is posted where everyone in the channel can read it, so it never carries a link that acts on your behalf: any decision it lists comes with its own **Ship** and **Not now** buttons, which count as whoever presses them, and an Undo is done in the app.
* **Only members are read.** A reply from a Slack account in your Slack that we can't match to a member changes nothing; the thread is told so. Link your account by pressing any button on a note once. A reply from another company's Slack in a shared channel is not read and not answered.
* **Public channels.** Replies are read in threads in public channels, including a reply also sent to the channel. In a private channel, use the buttons or answer in the app.

Slack delivering the same reply twice acts once.

## Removing it

Remove the app from Slack (**Slack → Settings → Manage apps → Attensira → Remove**), or revoke its access there. As soon as Slack tells us:

* Slack shows as disconnected on Customize → Connectors, and Settings → Notifications offers **Reconnect Slack** in place of the channel picker.
* **The Monday note, the win message and the [alerts](https://docs.attensira.com/account/alerts.md) come to you by email instead**, starting with the next one, until you reconnect. Your settings stay as they are, so reconnecting puts them back in Slack.
* One Inbox item, **Reconnect Slack**, takes you straight to installing the app again. It closes on its own when you do.

If Slack stops accepting the app's token without telling us, the next post finds out and does the same.

## If a post fails

A post Slack doesn't accept (Slack is down, or the app was taken out of the channel) is tried again, five times over about a day. If the last attempt fails too, the note comes to you **by email** on its own, and the **Reconnect Slack** Inbox item is raised so you can fix it. You never get the same note twice by email.

## Disconnecting it in Attensira

Disconnecting Slack in Attensira (**Customize → Connectors**) removes Attensira's access at Slack, not only here:

* The posts and the buttons stop at once: the install is taken out of service on our side straight away.
* Attensira tells Slack to revoke the app's token, so it can no longer read your channel list or post in your Slack. If Slack can't be reached at that moment, we ask again on a widening schedule for about three weeks. Nothing is read or posted in the meantime, and you can always remove the app in Slack yourself (above).
* If the same Slack workspace is also connected to another Attensira workspace, the token stays valid for that one (Slack gives the app a single token per Slack workspace), and only this workspace's install is removed.
* No **Reconnect Slack** Inbox item is raised: you chose to disconnect.

To connect again, press **Connect Slack** on Settings → Notifications and approve in Slack, the same as the first install.
